Terms and Conditions

1) Times

  • Doors open at 6pm during the week & 5pm on Saturdays, please note the opening time may vary for Special Shows such as Halloween on 31 October, Halloween Kids show on 1 November, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Valentine’s Day, and Easter Friday and Easter Sunday.

  • Movie starts after sunset, which range between 7:30pm and 8:30pm. Start times vary depending on the time that the sun sets. Details pertaining to the Doors opening and Movie starting–times will be stipulated on your movie ticket and movie page found here.
  • Gates will close 15 minutes after the start of the movie.
2) Ticket sales
  • All tickets are sold through Webtickets.co.za.
  •  Ticket sales are final, non-refundable, and non-transferable to another night. Tickets can, however, be given to anyone to use and no name change is required.
  • No persons will be allowed entry without a Webtickets (printed or digital) ticket.
  •  No unredeemed gift vouchers or any other unredeemed vouchers will be allowed at the door. To redeem your gift voucher email hello@thegalileo.co.za with your voucher number and details of the voucher.
  • Refunds or exchanges will not be made for inadvertently booking the wrong show. Please check your booking carefully before paying.
3) Cancelled / Postponed / Rescheduled shows
  • Registered Webtickets account holders will receive an email and SMS notifications in case of show cancellations, postponements, or venue changes, among other reasons.
  • Movies and venues are subject to change. In the event of unforeseen circumstances or causes beyond our reasonable control, should The Galileo Open Air Cinema cancel a show.
  • Light drizzle and tolerable wind will not cancel the event, so please come prepared.
  • If a movie is cancelled the day before or on the day of the event before doors open, we will inform the registered Webtickets account holder via email (hello@thegalileo.co.za) and SMS. Communication will be sent to the email address and cell phone number used to make the Webtickets booking. You will then have the option of choosing another movie on another date valid for the same season (ends May 2025) or receive a refund. Please note that no exchanges/refunds will be given after 7 days from the cancellation date for any reason whatsoever.
  •  If a movie is cancelled after the doors have opened, you will have the option of choosing another movie on another date valid for the same season (ends May 2025) or receive a refund. If a movie has played for longer than half its length and we are forced to cancel, no exchanges will be given.
  • The registered Webtickets account holder will receive an email the following working day with instructions in this regard. Please note that no exchanges will be given after 7 days from the cancellation date for any reason whatsoever. When choosing the refund option it is for the face value of the tickets only and does not include any fees paid.
  • Please note that The Galileo is not accountable for any expenses related to travel, accommodation, or other services or products that are associated with attending the event.
  • Shows with less than 10% ticket sales may be cancelled by the organisers up to 24 hours in advance.
  • Movies and venues are subject to change. In the event of unforeseen circumstances or causes beyond our reasonable control, should The Galileo Open Air Cinema cancel a show.
4) Special Offers/Discounts/Deals
  • Tickets or vouchers bought at a special rate are non-exchangeable for cash⁠ or vouchers and is non-transferable for example Special Offer/Black Friday Deal.
  • In the event of unforeseen circumstances or causes beyond our reasonable control, should The Galileo Open Air Cinema cancel a show, that offered a Special Offer/Black Friday Deal, the tickets cannot be refunded, but can be used to reschedule to another date which will be specified in the refund procedure email.
  • Promotion not valid in conjunction with any other percentage off discount code.
  • Special Offer/Black Friday Deal tickets are set at a specific limited number.
  • Special Offer/Black Friday Deal tickets are offered online only, unless otherwise stated.
  • The pensioners special is applicable to anyone 60 years and older, the tickets must be purchased online at Webtickets by choosing the “Pensioner Ticket”. Please note pensioner tickets cannot be purchased at the door. A valid I.D. needs to be presented during the booking process and needs to be brought with you on the night to validate the ticket. The discount does not apply to special shows such as Halloween on 31 October, Halloween Kids show on 1 November, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Valentine’s Day, and Easter Friday and Easter Sunday – shows.
  • The student special is applicable to students that are studying with accredited tertiary education institutions with a valid student card that are registered with Varsity Vibe. The Galileo Open Air Cinema has partnered with a third party called Varsity Vibe for the student verification process. When purchasing your tickets on www.Webtickets.co.za, you will have the option of selecting a “Student Discount Ticket” which will require a *Varsity Vibe code during booking, if you are not registered with varsity vibe – click here to register for free: www.varsityvibe.co.za/onboarding/join. Please note that Student discounts are only valid for online purchases and cannot be purchased at the door.
    The discount does not apply to special shows such as Halloween on 31 October, Halloween Kids show on 1 November, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Valentine’s Day, and Easter Friday and Easter Sunday – shows.
5) Availability
  • The Galileo Picnic season runs from October to May every summer.
  • Tickets for the whole season are available online from September.
  • Tickets are limited, so book them ASAP to avoid disappointment.
  • If a show is sold out, no tickets will be available at the door.
6) Restrictions
  • No chairs or backrests are allowed to be brought into any of our venues.
  • You may bring your own food and drinks into all venues except at Asara, Blaauwklippen and Zevenwacht Wine Estate where no food may be brought in. Food will be available to purchase from these Estates’ restaurants and market.
  • No alcohol is allowed to be brought into the following venues: Wine Estates and Central Park in Century.
  • Bag checks will be performed at the entrance of these venues that enforce a no-food /alcohol policy or have other restrictions. As specified in the movie & event description found at www.thegalileo.co.za/movies.
  • No pets allowed at any of our screenings. Unless otherwise stated.
  • No smoking, including electronic cigarettes/vapes, is allowed anywhere except at the designated smoking area.
  • It is a criminal offence to remove any Galileo property from the premises, including blankets, backrests, VIP tables, games, décor or any other equipment. Offenders will be prosecuted.
     
7) Competition Terms & Conditions
  •  In the event of unforeseen circumstances or causes beyond our reasonable control, The Galileo Open Air Cinema reserves the right to cancel a competition, or to change the rules or to change the prize(s) at any time.
  • In the unfortunate case that a show gets cancelled that you won tickets to, The Galileo will honour the giveaway by offering the winner an alternative movie date (excluding special shows such as Halloween on 31 October, Halloween Kids show on 1 November, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Valentine’s Day, and Easter Friday and Easter Sunday – shows.). If the competition was in conjunction with a third party such as a Wine Farm, this part of the prize, unfortunately, falls away.
  • Instagram, Facebook and Meta have no affiliation with giveaways.⁠
  • The prize is non-transferable and non-exchangeable for cash⁠ or a voucher.
  •  The winner will be contacted via direct message. If they are unreachable after 48 hours, the prize will be redrawn and another winner will be picked.⁠
  • If you unfollow us before the draw, your entry will not be valid⁠.
8). Guidelines for Admission to Our Event

The Galileo prioritises the safety and enjoyment of all attendees. Therefore, The Galileo and venue management reserve the right to deny admission to anyone due to health and safety, environmental, or security concerns. Please take note of the following guidelines:

It is the ticketholder’s responsibility to be aware of and to adhere to the age restrictions applicable to movies exhibited in the Republic of South Africa, and governed by the Film and Publications Board of South Africa (FPB). Should a guest not meet the age restriction criteria attached to the movie, The Galileo is legally compelled to deny entry to the cinema to said person, and no ticket refunds or readmission tickets will be granted.

  •  The age restriction and parental guidelines for each film, as classified by the FPB, are displayed in the  detailed movie description found here: www.thegalileo.co.za/movies/. For more information about FPB ratings, visit www.fpb.org.za/ratings/. When booking your ticket, please ensure that you review all relevant information and bring proof of age if required.
  • There will be no refunds for late arrivals (please note that gates close 15 minutes prior to the start time of the movie, check your ticket for Doors opening and Movie start time.)
  • Guests may be denied admission or removed from the event in the case of refusal to be searched, abusive or threatening behaviour, drunkenness, smoking in non-smoking areas, carrying offensive weapons or illegal substances.

The Galileo crew and management reserves the right to request guests to take items back to their cars unless the items in question has been pre-arranged with management in writing. Please be aware that the following items are strictly prohibited and will not be allowed into the event:

  • Private chairs and backrests are not allowed (NB. Please contact us on 071 471 8728 / email hello@thegalileo.co.za at least 2 days before the show should you have any medical condition that would require a private chair.
  • Items with an open flame, such as candles, and sky lanterns.
  • Fireworks, laser pens, and laser equipment.
  • Tents, flags, gazebos, large umbrellas or pop-up structures.
  • Balls (soccer/rugby/etc) or bicycles, skateboards, scooters.
  • Animals
  • Recording equipment.
  • Some venues do not allow balloons (email us to check).
  • Samples, sponsorship, promotional, or marketing materials for other businesses, events, or activities.
  • Controlled substances or illegal drugs as defined by the South African law, is prohibited.
9). Privacy and Personal Information
  • By entering the event, you consent to be filmed or photographed, as filming and photography may occur. All official photographers and film crew will be identifiable. If you do not wish to have your footage or photographs published, please inform the operations manager or photographer on the evening.
  • At The Galileo Open Air Cinema and Webtickets, we value your privacy and will not disclose your personal information for marketing or any other reasons without your consent, unless required by law. We are committed to respecting your privacy and keeping any personal communication between us confidential.
10). Force Majeure
  • The Definition of “Force Majeure” in an Agreement, “force majeure” refers to an event that is outside the control of either party and could not have been predicted. This includes natural disasters, fire, floods, war, invasion, civil war, riots, strikes, national restrictions, court orders, civil unrest, and any other circumstances that are outside of our control of either party due to governmental authority.
    Force Majeure and COVID19. No party shall be liable to the other in respect of the non-performance of any of the obligations arising from The Galileo Open Air Cinema, in the event and to the extent that such non-performance is the direct result of or has been directly caused by force majeure.
    If any party is unable to fulfill their obligations due to force majeure, they will not be held responsible for any resulting damages. Additionally, any non-performance due to the Coronavirus will not result in liability for The Galileo Open Air Cinema. They will make every effort to cooperate and fulfill their obligations in compliance with COVID regulations.
11. Indemnity and Disclaimer of Liability
  • By attending a show presented by The Galileo Open Air Cinema, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless its shareholders, directors, employees, and/or agents from any and all claims or loss, including injuries and/or property damage, regardless of whether such claims arise from an act or omission by The Galileo Open Air Cinema, its shareholders, directors, employees, or agents, and whether such acts or omissions were negligent or not. Additionally, as a parent or guardian, you agree that your dependents cannot hold The Galileo Open Air Cinema accountable for any damages incurred as a result of attending a show. If any provision of this agreement is deemed void, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain valid and enforceable.

12. Dog Friendly Show
On Friday, 22 November 2024 and Friday, 21 February 2025, the Galileo Open Air Cinema is pleased to announce the forthcoming dog-friendly shows at Central Park, Century City.
We have limited the number of tickets available for furry friends. We look forward to welcoming you and your furry friend to this exciting and unique event.
Please pre-book a VID (Very Important Dog) Ticket for your furry friend when booking your own ticket for the performance on Friday, 22 November 2024 and Friday, 21 February 2025. Limited VID tickets are available, with proceeds going to African Tails. In order to ensure a secure and pleasant experience for all, it is imperative to comply with the terms and conditions of this show. More specifically, dog owners are expected to exhibit consideration for other guests who attend with or without their dogs.


Guidelines for Bringing Dogs On shows labelled as “Dog Friendly Shows”

  • Please bring a blanket / small bed for your dog to rest on while they’re next to you.
  • All dogs brought to this particular screening must be supervised and kept under effective control.
  • Dogs must be leashed with a short leash (1 meters or less) at all times.
  • An adult should be responsible for the dog’s supervision.
  • It is essential that bringing your dog does not affect the enjoyment of other customers with/without their dogs or create hazards for them, our staff or our premises.
  • If you’re planning to bring your furry friend along, it’s crucial to ensure that their presence doesn’t disturb other customers and their pets, nor pose any risks to our staff or premises.
  • In cases where a dog becomes unruly or negatively impacts others, the Manager has the right to intervene and request that the owner and the dog leave the premises.
  • Please note that refunds will not be provided in such cases.
  • Feeding dogs during the event is not recommended, but owners are welcome to offer small treats to their pets.
  • Owners must ensure their dogs are kept quiet during the film.
  • Bring a drinking container and water for your furry friend.
  • Aggressive dogs or and dogs needing to be muzzled, will be denied entry. If a dog becomes aggressive or disruptive, the owner will be told to immediately remove their dog from the venue at The Galileo’s discretion.
    Dog owners must clean up their dog’s droppings and dispose in bins available.
  • While dogs are welcomed into the screening, they are not allowed in the Century City Clubhouse, dining areas, bathrooms or any back-of-house areas.
